Hybrid Online Courses


Huntington Beach High School is proud to announce hybrid online courses offerings starting for the Fall of 2018. These courses will provide a valuable learning experience that will prepare our students for college and career success. Additionally, the structure of these courses are designed to meet the increasing demands of students and families for flexible options. In a rapidly changing society, HBHS is hoping to capitalize on its use of educational technologies in order to provide highly engaging 21st Century learning environments for all students.

Courses Offered

Photography 1

If you enjoy digital media, storytelling, design, photography, and other forms of communication this could be a great fit for you.This course will help students become well rounded in the fundamentals of digital photography and develop as visual communicators. Syllabus


This course is designed to fulfill the HBUHSD Graduation Requirement for Health. It is highly recommended that students who register for this course have an impacted schedule. Students will learn from a variety of topics such as; Nutrition, Drugs, HIV and AIDS, STIs, Bullying, as well as the Four Pillars of Health (Social, Emotional, Physical, and Mental Health). Syllabus

English CP4 (ERWC)

The ERWC aligns with the California English-Language Arts Content Standards, addresses critical reading and writing problems identified by the CSU English Placement Test Committee, and prepares students to meet the expectations of college and university faculty. Syllabus

AP Photography & Design

This class is for highly motivated students with a deep interest in design and visual communication. The primary avenue for completion of this course will be through digital photography but there are many other options available. Syllabus

AP Computer Science Principles

The AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) course introduces the essential ideas of computer science and shows how computing and technology can influence the world around you. You can pursue your interests in digital projects – like apps, films, games or music – that showcase your creativity. Syllabus

AP Literature and Composition

This course is designed to parallel a first year college literature and composition class.  There is a heavy workload of reading and writing. It is expected that students come to the class with a strong background in writing and the mechanics of the English language. Students should also be technologically savvy, experts at time management, and self-motivated. There is a summer assignment associated with this class that will be available in June and can be found at HBOILERS.com.  Syllabus

Enrollment Instructions

  1. Talk to your guidance tech and/or the teacher of the course to get more info and get your name on the sign up list.
  2. Attend a mandatory hybrid online mandatory orientation meeting.
  3. Turn in a learning agreement contract signed by both the student and parent to the receptionist at the front desk.

Are hybrid online courses UC approved?

Yes. These classes count as the same credit as the comparable course taught in a traditional format.

When will hybrid online courses meet?

Hybrid online courses will be scheduled at the beginning or end of the school day. Please refer to the class syllabus and your schedule for exact times.

Who can take these classes?

Any student who successfully completes the enrollment process is eligible to take the class, provided he or she meets the prerequisites necessary for that course.
